Funeral Ceremony

Funeral ceremonies are very significant rituals, they bring people together to share grief and express sadness, to remember, to reflect upon and often to celebrate a life.

It's a very humbling experience to be invited into homes and families at such a sad and difficult time. A funeral ceremony plays an important role in the grieving process and in helping people come to terms with their loss. I am very committed to providing a funeral service that reflects the wishes, beliefs, values and cultural background of the family and their loved one so they find some comfort in the funeral process

As a funeral celebrant or life celebrant, I will ensure I provide the most caring possible service to the family and friends of the deceased. We will meet for an hour or so a few days prior to the funeral service at your home, funeral home or any other suitable venue of your choice. During this time I will talk with family and friends in order to learn as much about the deceased one as possible.  This is the most important part of creating a personal funeral, a funeral tribute which is true to their life story and personal qualities.

As a life celebrant, I will create funeral ceremony that will honour and celebrate the life of one who has passed away with compassion and sensitivity.

With your guidance, the funeral ceremony will reflect on your loved one's unique nature and the influence they had on the lives of others.

Funeral services are generally conducted at the chapel of the funeral director, at the graveside, or at the crematorium chapel.  However, it is possible by arrangement with your funeral director, to have the ceremony in a place that may have been special to the deceased.

Your funeral director will advise you on the procedure if you wish to have the service in a park, or beach, or at home. The funeral service, or ceremony may include:

- a candle ceremony

- music (live or recorded)

- a reflection on death and loss

- some poetry and prose

- a eulogy, paying tribute to the life and character of the person who has passed away

- family and friends may read tributes, poetry or perform music

- the placing of flowers by family members

- a period of silence and reflection

- formal words of goodbye
